Balikpapan is locally known for its seafood dining. Fine dining normally can be enjoyed in high-end hotels, while Warung/Rumah Makan styles are well spread around the city and its suburbs.
Many small restaurants, warung or rumah makan usually do not accept electronic payment at all and do not serve any alcoholic drinks. Tipping is not required unless you are happy to do so. Some restaurants may apply service charges, normally between 5%-11%.
