Restaurants and Cafes

Local Food | Asian Food | Western Food

Quite often people who work in downtown Manado go to Tondano Lake to have lunch, especially if they have guests. Beautiful views, a pleasant climate and fresh fish from the lake make people keep coming back just to have lunch on "floating restaurants" on the lake.

Many restaurants, warungs and rumah makans in Manado or Minahasa highlands do not accept electronic payments at all, so be ready with cash in hand. However, since food is relatively cheap, you do not have to worry about keeping millions of rupiahs in your wallet. Though they do not serve any liquors, some of them might sell beers. Tipping is not a common practice and generally not required, unless you are happy to do so. Some restaurants apply a service charge, normally up to a maximum of 10%.

Listed below are a number of independently selected restaurants and cafés (sponsor free) from JoTravelGuide.com. Details mentioned may include its location, operating hours, price range, whether or not booking is required, alcohol availability, and so on.

As a reference, a small bottle of Coke in Manado costs around Rp. 4,000, a five-hundred-ml bottle of mineral water costs Rp. 4,000, a big bottle of beer costs around Rp. 20,000, and a pack of Marlboro cigarettes costs around Rp. 9,000. Sometimes these prices might be slightly higher in Minahasa highlands by approximately Rp. 2,000. Click here for Indonesian Rupiah currency exchange information.

The price range below is based on approximate price of one main dish plus a small bottle of mineral water (unless otherwise stated differently), excluding 10% government tax and service charges.

up to approximately Rp. 20,000s
