Airlines to Bandung

Air Transportation | Land Transportation | Within Bandung | Outskirts of Bandung

There are two most common methods of transportation to reach Bandung: by air and by land. Within Bandung itself it is quite interesting to see how transportation works.

Here pedestrians have to look out carefully to their left, right and front before crossing any junctions. "Give way to pedestrians" is a rare thing to see here. The so-called "traffic laws and signage" are there and nicely in place but their enforcement still requires a lot of improvement. Click the picture below for more and bigger photos of transportation in Bandung.

It is quite common to see public transport stop anywhere, which also gives you an advantage because you can hop on and hop off at any place you like. People can step on their brakes at anytime.

A 2-lane road can squeeze three or even four cars side-by-side during traffic jams. Though traffic lights display a red colour, a few drivers might not stop right away, unless there are police officers in the vicinity.

What is Angkot? What about public bus? The answers can be found under "Within Bandung" below.

Air Transportation

There is only one international airport in the city called Husein Sastranegara International Airport, which also serves domestic flights and it is located within the city. This airport is part of the other 14 Indonesian airports that provides visa on arrival facility.

A passenger service charge (airport tax) will be charged at the airport. It costs Rp. 75,000 for passengers travelling on international flights. For more about this please refer to the General Information Indonesia.

International Direct Flights

To/From Airlines Frequencies
Kuala Lumpur Air Asia Daily
Singapore Air Asia
Silk Air

Currently Air Asia connects Bandung and two international destinations: Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Kuala Lumpur to Bandung trip takes just slightly over 2 hours on a jet airplane, such as Airbus A320. Singapore to Bandung takes about 1 hour 45 minutes. Silk Air also flies between Singapore-Bandung. If you come from other countries besides Malaysia and Singapore and you would like to choose, whether you should take a connecting flight via Kuala Lumpur (LCC Terminal) or Singapore, may be you can consider this: transiting via Changi Airport of Singapore may be subject to additional random tight security check upon your arrival from Bandung, and again you will be tightly-security-screened prior to your next flight. (This "random security check for transit passengers from Indonesia" doesn't exist in either Kuala Lumpur, or many other big airports in the world that are connected directly to Indonesia). Unless you are convenience of having two tight security checks for a short transit, Changi Airport still has better facilities for transit passengers.

The published one-way airfare from Kuala Lumpur starts from around RM (Ringgit Malaysia) 149 before additional charges. Singapore to Bandung starts from SGD 60. For the latest offers please check with Air Asia.
