Middle Eastern Food | Asian Food | Western Food
Doha has lately seen a growing numbers of international restaurants. Major chain restaurants, such as Burger King, Cook Door (from Egypt), Domino’s Pizza, Hardee's, KFC, LeNotre, Gordon Ramsay’s Maze, McDonald’s, Subway, sushi restaurants, The Butcher Shop & Grill (from South Africa), thai food restaurants and many other are available in Doha.
Apart from these chain restaurants, there are also plenty good Middle Eastern, Asian and Western food restaurants in major hotels. However, for visitors travelling with small children, they need to check with the respective restaurants, since a few of these fine dining restaurants don’t accept visitors with small children.
Throughout Ramadan (the Islamic fasting month), all restaurants are closed during the day and will be open after breaking the fast to early morning (before fasting commences). However, restaurants located in major hotels are allowed to open for business.
It is a local practice in Doha to see customers honking from their cars to call restaurant’s staff. These customers will stay in their cars while waiting for their take-away food. Sometimes people do smoke in restaurants, though more and more restaurants apply the no-smoking rule strictly.
Many restaurants, mostly small and medium, have home delivery services, with or without additional charges. Small restaurants usually do not accept electronic payment and do not serve any alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic drinks are available only in restaurants at major hotels and the Pearl. Tipping is not required unless you are happy to do so. Some restaurants may apply service charges.
Listed below are a number of independently selected restaurants and cafés (sponsor free) by www.JoTravelGuide.com. Details mentioned include location, opening hours, price range, whether or not booking is required, alcohol availability, and so on.
The price range is based on one main dish (unless otherwise stated), excluding government tax and service charges, whenever applicable. As a reference, a small bottle of soft drink (or a can) costs around QAR 4 to QAR 6 and a small bottle of mineral water costs around QAR 8. A cup of coffee costs around QAR 10.
