Singkarak Lake / Ulak Indah
Singkarak Lake is the second largest lake in Sumatera after Lake Toba. It is about 13,600 hectares wide. Many people around Singkarak Lake work as fishermen; where they do their fishing in the lake. Visitors can have a boat trip around the lake at a cost around Rp.100,000-Rp.150,000 (per boat for approximately 30-minute trip). Lake Singkarak is said to have a kind of small fish that cannot be found anywhere else, called “Ikan Bilih”. The locals normally deep-fry the fish or make “Ikan Bilih” soup. One packed fried Bilih costs around Rp. 15,000.
Visitors can bring their own fishing equipment to fish the “Bilih” fish if they want to.
